  • Recently, there has been a series of posts containing gibberish posted by multiple IP addresses. It is highly possible that this is the work of only one user I know (but I cannot confirm it yet). I had already wrote about this on the VSTF Wiki but no reply has been given yet. So at the moment, if you see such a post in the future, please remove them ASAP. For the admins, you may choose to close or remove them as you like, blocking them may not be effective since the IP addresses are always different.

    Thanks.

    • In order to combat such useless edits, I'm going to be protecting many of the unprotected pages so that only registered users can edit it so they can no longer vandalize in disguise. Sorry to all of the good Mysterious Surfers, you guys should be able to edit again in (hopefully) a few days time.

    • Many many sites only allow registered users posting rights. Usually readers are looking for information. Yet some readers finding poor or no information choose to drop nuggets, if a site is open to it. "Mysterious Surfer" sure is 'cute' as a posting nym but as seen the generic just creates a problem for the site and those who choose to read and post. Those get labelled "Spammer" along with the rogue "Mysterious Poster".

It is easier to go to the admin dashboard -> wiki features and enable -> require all contributors to log in.

    • I'm actually all for that. If it's really important enough for you to make an edit, it shouldn't be to much trouble to make an account, right?

People tend not to make accounts for small wikis, so you would be detering contributors. I would suggest you only use the "anon-lock" option during periods of crysis such as this one. There are many good editors (some of which are bureaucrats on big wikis) that began as anonymous. It is really a risky feature.

    • Note that my main concern here isn't the article vandalism, but the forum posts. So please remove them if you see them!

    • Question. Are you guys (admins) at all concerned with value of information posted to the WiKi or is any content gopd content for database numbers unless you (admin) declare "SPAM".

      (Sorry for the late reply)

There's no point doing that really as they don't really go around to each page they could edit and mess around on it.

Admins aren't the only users who have the rights for declaring a piece of content as spam, probably everyone has the rights for that actually. Although normal users can't delete pages, they can add the {{Delete}} template on a page if they think that page is considered spam.

Hopefully the answer for your question is there.

Honestly, I just realized that such a function was available there. XD

Anyways, we could do that, but it's a large decision to make, we'll need to discuss on this.

You can do it temporarily until the VSTF sets in.

Regardless of tools available or admins holding a talkfest to reach consenus it is really a very simple straight forward choice.

Is the Wiki built for every turkey needing a scrathpad to lay an egg in or is the Wiki built for players to interact with ideas and achievements?

I am ancient, a dinosaur in todays terms but I will bet my last buck the 10yr old players are just aa pissed off as I am to have to scroll through  30+ lines of garbage "recent articles" to get to read the updates in this thread storyline bLog, whatever it is, on the topic of Mysterious Surfer spam.

I wrote before this Wiki is a mess. The idiot or idiots currently proving that true give me no joy in being proven right on that score.

This Wiki should be seeing thousands of vistors every day as it is the only english language forum for SS players... yet it is dead, with the exception of a few admins and one busy spammer.

Have a discussion, make the topic why that is. The spammers are easy stopped, close the open doors!

      HTH some.
